Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie shed tears at the premiere of her new film, remembering her mother and grandmother who died of cancer.

According to Reuters, Jolie confessed at the world premiere event of the film “Couture” held at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival on the 7th (local time), “I am now 50 years old, and my mother and grandmother were undergoing chemotherapy at this age.”

Jolie shared a message of hope, saying, “We all have worries, and they may stop us, but we need to make the most of this life before it ends.”

Alice Winoco’s film “Couture” tells the story of the intersecting lives of three women set during Paris Fashion Week. Jolie played the role of “Maxine”, an American filmmaker who directs a short film in Paris during the divorce proceedings and is diagnosed with breast cancer.

Jolie seems to have projected a lot of herself into this role. During the premiere Q&A session, a viewer shed tears when she confessed, “My friend passed away with cancer.”

In the past, Jolie was found to have a BRCA1 gene mutation that increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Her mother, Marchelyn Bertrand, died at the age of 56 after a 10-year battle with cancer, and because of this gene, Jolie’s probability of developing breast cancer was 78%, and the probability of developing ovarian cancer was 50%.

In the end, Jolie underwent surgery to remove both breasts as a preventive measure in 2013, and she wrote an article in the New York Times (NYT) to inform the world. This has resulted in increased awareness about hereditary cancers worldwide and a surge in genetic testing and cancer prevention counseling.
